Building Up The Youth was founded on the principle that everyone counts. Inclusion, diversity, and equity at are the very core of our beliefs. We strive to create a community in which all individuals are welcome. At BUTY, all identities, perspectives, and experiences are heard, respected, and valued. Our commitment to cultivate, nurture and build up the lives of our youth empowers our youth with confidence, character, and determination to persevere through any challenges life brings them. No one should be made to feel discounted or threatened because of their race, ethnicity, appearance, athletics, gender, gender expression, immigration status, language, nationality, political ideology, religion/spirituality, sex, sexuality, socio-economic status, and other personal identities and experiences. Building Up The Youth, building a better future.

Located in Sicklerville, New Jersey, near Philadelphia, Building Up the Youth is a certified 501(c)3 non-profit focused on providing positive mentoring, support and guidance for at-risk, inner city youth.

The programs offered by Building up the Youth are supported by donations from local businesses and philanthropists and staffed by volunteers. Activities are designed to provide local kids with safe, free and enriching experiences.  The mission is to provide mentorship and guidance to children to help them develop confidence, character and determination to persevere through the challenges life brings them. Guidance and support is provided to bolster academic, athletic and community citizenship skills for the next generation to strengthen our community’s foundation. 

Building Up the Youth was founded by Ernest Brown, who currently serves as the organization’s executive director. Under his loving and charismatic stewardship, Building Up the Youth now offers a selection of weekend programs for kids, including: 

  • Mentoring

  • Tutoring and Homework Assistance (Math and Reading)

  • School Principal and Teacher Partnership

  • Community Service

  • Life Skill Training 

  • Connecting/Reconnecting with Fathers

  • Fitness Training

  • Sport Skill Coaching (Basketball, Football, Boxing, Track & Field)

Our community, like many minority communities in the United States today, is faced with a myriad of socioeconomic challenges. The youth of these communities are invariably negatively affected. We have an obligation to plant, cultivate, nurture and Build Up the Lives of our Youth.

Funds for sporting equipment and supplies, compassionate volunteers and accountable leadership are all fundamental needs.
